Hello! Welcome to my blog! I just want to thank everyone who is reading
this sentence. Thank you for choosing to
click on my blog, and thank you for staying and reading this first post. This first post is basically going to be an
introduction on who I am, what this blog is for, and why I started the blog.
Firstly, my name
is Alexandria. I’m going to give you a brief
summary of myself, so you know who the person behind the blog is.
I am currently a Nursing major at the Honors College at Western
Kentucky University (WKU). If you don’t know
where the heck WKU is, it’s in a city about 45 minutes north of Nashville, TN
called Bowling Green, KY. I totally recommend
choosing this university if you’re looking.
The campus is beautiful, and there are so many opportunities available to
the students. The very special opportunity
I have been given is the whole purpose of this blog.
Besides planning
for this opportunity and studying Nursing, I love music. I pretty much listen to every kind of music
except a few hardcore things (I don’t much care for music that screams at me.
Haha!). One of my favorite things to do
from the time I could walk until now was singing, dancing, and acting. I actually was the starring role of Belle
in my high school’s production of Beauty and the Beast my senior year. That was an amazing experience, and I
cherished every moment of it mostly because my family is a HUGE Disney
family. When I was younger, we would
sometimes go to Disney World in Orlando, FL twice a year! We don’t go as often now, but when we do, it’s
just as much fun as it was when I was younger.
That’s why that experience meant so much to me (there’s a video of me as
Belle on YouTube if you care to see it).
I was also born
and raised in the town of my university.
So, I’ve grown up a true Hilltopper (and believe me, we are the
Hilltoppers. I ‘ll have killer calf muscles
by the time I’m done with college!) ever since birth (Dad literally put a WKU
shirt on me as soon as he could after I was born). In fact, I’m watching them beat South Alabama
on TV as I type. Go Tops! My whole heart is in this school especially
this opportunity I’ve been hinting at.
On to the purpose
of this blog. My freshmen year of high
school, I found out that in college you could study in a Harry Potter-like
castle. The name of it was Harlaxton,
and the two words Honors College were always beside it in some way. I automatically told myself that the only way
I could go to the place I had been dreaming of since I was a little girl, was
to get into the Honors College. My
sophomore year I got way more serious about actually doing this. My junior year, I actually started making
appointments with advisors at the Honors College to get my foot in the door and
show them that I was super serious about this.
For the next three years, I worked super hard to get straight A’s on all
my report cards, and when the time came my senior year, I had no second
thoughts about applying for the Honors College.
In January of my senior year, I got my acceptance letter, and the first
thought that ran through my head was that now I would finally get to go to
England.
Now, I’ll tell you
about the program that I am going to in the fall of 2014. In Grantham, Lincolnshire, United Kingdom is
a beautiful manor house called Harlaxton.
Just in case you’re wondering, Grantham is an hour train ride from
London. I get to go there for a whole
semester. Students typically take twelve
hours of credit, and there are no classes on Fridays, so almost every weekend
is a three day weekend to allow students to travel to all the wonderful places
in Europe.
Lastly, now that
you know a little bit about me and the program/journey I’m embarking on next
fall, I can tell why I created this blog.
I want all of
those high school and college students that want to travel the world know that
they can do it. I wish that I would have
had a thorough blog like this one to look at and dream that one day that was
going to be me. On this blog, I will
take you every step of the way from applying to the last day of the program to
post study abroad syndrome (which I feel is going to be a thing). I want to help people at any school in any
part of the country know that studying abroad can happen for anyone that wants to do
it.
I have also
created a Youtube channel here that I will begin to post videos to go along
with my blog posts and all of my travel
vlogs from all over the UK and Europe.
It’s going to be
such a fun ride, and I’m hoping that a lot of you will enjoy it!
